Nashville has been recognized recently for its economic vitality and a growing base of companies that are on the move. This week, Inc. released its annual list of the 5,000 fastest-growing companies in America, and more than three dozen companies from Middle Tennessee made the list. We decided to reach out to several of these companies and figure out some of their growth secrets. Here are responses from 15 of this year’s crop of fast movers.
Cumberland Consulting Group
2012 Revenue: $36.3 million
3-year revenue growth: 304 percent
In 25 words or less, what does your company do?
We are a national technology implementation and project management firm providing strategic information systems planning, system selection, implementation and optimization services to ambulatory, acute and post-acute health care providers.
You have been able to grow the company, even in challenging economic times. Why do you think your company was successful when so many others were struggling?
In addition to improving the quality of patient care our clients deliver, we also provide services that improve their financial performance. By running a lean, efficient company, we can deliver service quality equal to or better than our larger competitors at a much lower cost to our clients.
What advice would you give other business owners who are struggling to grow revenue? Any secrets to success?
Growth shouldn’t be a reaction; it should be the result of executing a well-defined strategic growth plan.
Be forward-thinking and position your company to serve both the short- and long-term needs of your clients, regardless of your industry focus. Stay focused on your business vision, mission and values.
What do the next 12-18 months look like for your company?
We expect to see continuing uncertainty in the marketplace and will face challenges in continuing the levels of growth we’ve achieved in recent years, but we are confident we will find new ways to achieve growth.
